In my head this could work mathematically quite easily depending on how the support generator would work for a ride....

But what if we have bland themeless trains in the game for rollercoasters and you can add CS and mould the trains shape withing limits?...

This computer then recaculates the train's height/width which is then used for collision detection and placement of the supports as you build... that would allow a new catergory for CS all together which would be train ride CS ..

I can think of many themed CS on a train like main trains dark ride trains space trains wacky shaped trains.. alien ships .. adventure like idiane jones .. themed like a plane car etc etc limitless really.

If any one has ever played spore where u can shape the creature you make any way you like vertically and horizontally this is will be easier to grasp with my idea on shapeing the trains.. but imagine the train being like soft play material on the game u can click and drag it into weird n wonder shapes... either angular, aero dynamic (note the shape wont be effecting the ride speeds its tnot worth the physics the game has to deal with to bother) its mainly an eye candy idea here which could just add to ride excitement...

this is an example of what i mean by manipulating the shapes and having CS that can be placed onto the main body for themeing... this would allow lots and allow more creativity.

Depending on how the rides are calculated for their intensity etc, its not needed but if we use train weight to measure its speed on a drop then custom scenery on the train adds to weight thus changings its ride stats but i personally think that is a waste of extra work for this part but if some one wanted to code it then the thought is there.
I like that idea. You could create totally amazing trains!
True, but it won't, sadly. A lot of work is involved in giving trains the lowest polycount possible. Being able to mold trains would increase that count.

Hmm perhaps but then id not want poly restrictions for my experience.

Surely if we just have it display total polys when designing the train, its up to the user to decide to have it in their game weather it brings lag to their experience or not thats their choice... ?

I'm sure that's how it will be. The default models will have low polys, and possibly the extras will. I think it should be up to the end user how much they add to the train, finding a balance of speed and detail.
I'm exercising coders perogative on this one.

Once you've mastered deformable mesh generation and the inverse kinematics that are used to animate thing let me know the math and then I will code it up...

I'm sure some one will think about giving it a try in the future when its needed. Couldnt the same functions used to manipulate landscape be applied to objects also ?
Maybe we should keep this in mind for the future. I doubt this is a high priority right now, so maybe we should add this later on in the game's life, like in a patch or an add-on? It's a cool feature, but not one that we absolutely need or probably want to code for right now.
The ideas this gives me are numerous.
I guess in some respects if its a function that could be applied to more than just trains on a coaster such as cars on a flat ride attatching stuff to the spokes and arms of the flat rides etc etc maybe it could even be used to alter the shape of scenery such as rocks.

Altho my main bet here is the scenery format that works in a park would have to be planned early on for the ability to code some thing that can manipulate their shapes for later on right?.. so i don't know if it some thing that could be applied afterwards but Im only guessing on that front.
