A couple to add to the list
Couple of things I see missing

Guess weight and age game
Strength test. Use a mallet and hit the target and ring the bell.

RE: A couple to add to the list
A consideration for the midway games is that the player should be able to play the game as a guest. Consequently, some real midway games would not work well - such as a "weight guess". The strength test might not work very well either. On the other hand, a "whack-a-mole" type game would be a good candidate.
I confess that I am not familiar with "tip the kats" or "fishpond". Can you elaborate?

RE: A couple to add to the list
Tip the kats would be a midway game where the player/peep throws a ball and attempts to knock over a figure mounted on some sort of frame. The figures are hinged so that they can be pushed or pulled back up to reset them. It's similar to the knocking over milk bottles game. The 'Tip a Troll' at the top of this page shows a small example of this type of game.

The fishpond can be done one of two ways. Basically, it's a water tank where the 'fish' swim around waiting to be caught with a fishing pole. The tank is basically a water tank that cows and horses would be drinking from. Some have an inner trough that the 'fish' swim around in. It would be similar to the 'pick a duck' game that you see at the county fairs in the U.S.

Just to chime in... I hope I'm not bugging u guys too much... The stalls should look more "realistic" than the ones in RCT3... I mean I understand that the game was technically targeted at children... But on the same note, I'm 32 years old, and I play it almost every day... They just look too "Kiddie" to me...

Just my 2 cents...

I'd also like to add these games...

Dart Game (With the ballons)
Water Game - I don't know the name for it, but it's where u have a gun, and squirt water at the target, and a horse or whatever goes up... You're sitting on barstools, competing with about 10-15 other people...

I am the ghost of Christmas Past.

sebar Wrote:You know something dude? I thought about that a while ago, but I think you are right. So here is my question to you. Can you find a name for that arcade game? If so, and post me a link on the net to it and I'll seriously add this.

Theres a number of versions but Ive seen it referred to as a electric shock machine quite a few time.

Heres one stand up version explained (Ive used this exact one once before):
Quote:The New Addams Family Electric Shock Machine

(thing) by sgs (1.8 y) (print) ? Sun Feb 11 2001 at 2 : 12 : 30
An arcade game (although it resembles a game that would be more likely found at a county fair). It has two polished metal bars, and four buttons (ranging from low to "max"), and then has a series of colored lights that go up to Uncle Fester's head. Uncle Fester has a white light bulb in his mouth.

The instructions tell you that the game can be played by one person (it shows someone holding the metal bars with each hand) or by two people (here it shows two people holding hands, with each person's free hand holding a metal bar). The only other instruction is "The game ends when you let go."

Not seeing any warnings, I knew that this must not be all that bad. I didn't know what to expect, but I figured that I would spend a dollar to find out. (I imagine that this is the marketing technique: curiosity).

The game has a small digital display (like you see on the new pinball machines). When you press one of the four intensity level buttons (I chose "max"), you find out what its all about.

The bars vibrate rapidly. It surprises you so much, it kinda feels like a shock. The digital display flashes some wattage, and there is noise. Every ten seconds or so, the vibrations suddenly increase in frequency, and more lights light up (getting closer to Uncle Fester's mouth). It kinda reminded me of holding onto a power drill or power sander that was supercharged.

I managed to hang on until the end, and the machine informed me "You did the maximum!!! 3000 watts!". The bulb in Uncle Fester's mouth flashed some, and the game went back to asking for money, silent.

I took a good look at my hands, no charring, although they did tingle for a while. The whole experience lasted about a minute or so.

And here is another version with sitting down...
Quote:Ol' Sparky

(thing) by VXO (2.2 mon) (print) ? Fri Nov 22 2002 at 21 : 37 : 16

An arcade game, supposedly resembling Florida's Ol' Sparky. Similar to The New Addams Family Electric Shock Machine in operation, it has a wooden chair that the player sits in and holds onto a pair of metal handles on the armrests. Next to the chair is a large box with a two-line (IIRC) alphanumeric vacuum flourescent display, similar to the displays on older pinball machines. This displays, presumably, instructions, and the supposed voltage while the game is in progress (displayed in an arbitrary unit, Jolts). On top is a large meter, which has markings on its scale for 0, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, and SMOKE. The machine vibrates the handles, simulating the feeling of an electric shock, while checking the electrical continuity between them to see if the player is still holding on. During this time, the display counts up in "Jolts", with the multiplexing speed turned WAY down so it sort of flashes from left to right (a neat effect, though it would be annoying if you actually had to read this for some reason). When it hits 2,000, the game ends, the meter moves all the way over to SMOKE, and a crapload of tickets are dispensed for the acquisition of spiffy little trinkets.

When I first saw this game, I burst out laughing at the sheer wrongness of it. It had been installed in the arcade about a week after the infamous event with the flames shooting out of the dead man's head had occured, due to an electrode sponge going dry. (This of course caused lots of outcry over the execution method having become exceptionally cruel, but I doubt the guy minded being on fire while taking 2,000 volts to the brainpan.)

Here is one of the games pictures and details...
http://www.bmigaming.com/games-arcade-refurb-fun.htm

And here is information on the games basics...
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4553748.html

So all in all if you need a true name the game in a way is a generator, simulating the feeling of electric shocks through fast yet steady shaking movements of two metals bars held tightly in your hands.

Wink RE: A couple to add to the list
I know this might not be a Midway game, but maybe we could have a shoot the riders game, where for a log flume, rapids ride, roller soaker, etc., you can simply click the mouse, and either a geyser or some kind of water related deivce shoots water at the ride, soaking the guests. The guests should also maybe react to getting wet. That's my idea even though I don't think it might be a Midway game. Also, could we have Skeeball? That's a fun game. Cool

How about some casino games like slots, blackjack roulette etc. After reading in the design paper that Guests may recieve money from midway games my first thought was, ok, let's build a casino then :2

I wonder if gambling would fit in the theme park theme. Perhaps you can post some images or videos of gambling in theme parks. I've never heard of gambling in a theme park because a major part of a theme parks demographic is ussualy children and/or teens. I like skeeball though but that might already be on the list. If it isn't it should be.

RE: A couple to add to the list
I agree that pure gambling machines would not fit in a theme park. I havent seen any slots in a theme park either. On the other hand, what else is Las Vegas than one big theme park for adults? Big Grin

It was just some silly thought after i've read that you can win money from midway games. Maybe we should limit winnings from midway games to souvenier items like bears hats etc.

You usually cant win money from midway games... at least I'd never heard of it. In fact, the closest I'd ever heard to anything like that is the way Pachinko parlors actually work.

We need a Pump It Up arcade machine!!!!
Its my fav arcade machine, its similar to DanceDance Revolution, although it uses 5 arrows, disposed in the shape of an X

I can gladly make one, although would it go on rides, or scenery itens??

here are some pics:

RE: A couple to add to the list
There was a game that was simular to the squirt gun/race hourse game that was mentioned eairlier. But this was more like a pinball machine. Pull the plunger, and the ball would shoot up the table, and drop through slots. Depending on the slot the ball dropped through, would advance an illuminated light across the board. The first light that made it to the end, would win and a school bell would sound.

Another one is a real shooting gallery. This had a rapid-fire BB gun, and rotating/moving targets in the back of the alley. The "guns" were mounted on a swivel pedistal. But it would be funny to put an "over-emphasised" kick to the machine gun, and the "marksman" would be rattled to the bones, vibrating to the shots of the gun, akin to a jack-hammer.

Then there's the short-lived "Laser Shooting Gallery" that had all sorts of animated targets, that would jump, spin, whatever, when the target was hit with a laser beam. I remember these looked like normal rifles and that the objects in the gallery were more old fasioned.

Another "Squirt-Gun" affair, is the balloon blow up. As long as the water stream hit the target, air would fill a balloon. Eventually bursting to clairify the winner.

Then you got those ring toss, hoops, basketball, football toss games. But has anyone thought of the swiveling rope ladder game? Skee Ball w/tickets? How about a giant slot machine, or giant pinball machine?

How about a rock climbing wall, or bungee jumper w/trampolines?

Around here, however, we don't
look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and
doing new things, because we're curious...
and curiosity keeps us moving down new paths.

Also instead of those photo spots like in rct3, have photo boths to charge guests and have the option to save the photos of special guests or created families.
